Start listening to two things at once for 10min 2x a day. Focus on what without growing out the other. As your mind wanders, as it naturally does, gently bring it back to the sound you’re focusing on. The trick is to allow the other sound to be in the background (DON’T try to drown it out) while learning how bring focus back to the present (the sound we want to focus on). Stopping rumination is easy it’s just terrifying. Learning this skill may help you bring yourself back out of your mind and it may also help you realize how much the brain jumps around. We are only focused on something with effort. I hope it helps.
another trick is to record yourself saying your thoughts out loud and listening to them 2x a day, while going about your normal activities!!!, until the anxiety subsides. This helps reduce the shock factor, turn them into a bad song stuck in your head, and shows you that the thoughts can be there without interfering with your life.
