But havent we all really wanted to say it and mean it?

Maybe not. Maybe its just me and my nostalgia. For I have always been an avid reader of print media. Growing up I consumed it to an almost fanatical degree. First it was books, then, as I moved into my 20s, it was a mixture of books and magazines. The trouble was, the magazines seldom sat quite right with me. I′d heard of this Golden Age of Print. Of a time when print media made a real impact and earned real respect. But it was clear that the Golden Age was behind us, and still remains there. Go to your nearest newsstand and you will see we are in an era of “now only $1″ titles. What quality can we really expect for $1? Little. As a generalisation, most magazines now feel like a disposable product churned out to elecit cash from our pockets and give us no more then an hour′s entertainment. Yet there was a time when it was different. A time when you really could pick up Playboy and say “I read it for the articles.”

I have been working on my portfolio and am in the process of actually doing something with my website…other than having a holding page which has been there for a year or so. I mean really Rome wasnt built in a day so like I tell my clients these things dont happen instantly they take time, right? My friend, colleague, Marie of Phreckles Photography was so so wonderful this week when I needed photos in a jiffy and came to my rescue, thank you, thank you!
She did some shots of my home so I thought I would share a few with you. I am really into detail oriented photos and always enjoy seeing them on other blogs and publications.

This compared to the blocks and blocks of colour featuring everywhere.

Dont get me wrong I am still digging the trend (albeit smart variations of it) but walking into the Bangkok store over the weekend was like being hit in the face with multiple paint balls. It was all a bit same same (the Thai are so ont have already spotted the python print on a set of cropped trousers in the Tel Aviv store.. looks like that Bangkok experience was definitely a one off. This is one of those places you can hole up in for days whilst satisfying every one of your all important holiday needs: food, shopping and food ? well my all important needs at least. Leather, cotton, wool knits – theres an organic feel to it all. At last nights launch of their new store on Brunswick St, Fitzroy that organic feel was heightened by a strummed acoustic guitar and rustic fingerfoods like plates of hot meatballs swimming in sauce, and huge orbs of ricotta that had been lovingly crumbed and then fried. But again it was all very subtle, and far from over-themed. Buls offerings have always struck me as a little on the eclectic side; the racks of clothes that line their stores are not quite basics, not statements either, but they are the kind of blank-canvas pieces you can style in different ways. And Buls stores have a sort of neutrality that allows you to keep an open mind as to how you might approach each piece.

Perhaps its the luxury of not being in front of the camera for a living, but working on these kind of projects with the amazing people we get to meet every day becomes kind of like the fun mucking around you would do with a bunch of friends. Aside from the genuinely fun time I had lounging around in a hotel room in D&G, drinking wine and singing along (rather badly) to Feetwood Mac, it was also completely interesting – as shoots always are – watching the team at work.
